Truth in old wives’ tales
When I was a little girl, my mother never allowed me to walk around with bare feet. If I did, I was always told that I would not be able to get pregnant when I was older because my uterus would catch a cold. Back then I didn’t believe this and dismissed it as nonsense, however, now that I am older and wiser, I know that old wives’ tales usually contain a lot of truth.

A ‘cold uterus’ is known in many different cultures across the Eastern world and is often said to be the cause for unexplained infertility. There are a range of remedies, particularly in traditional Chinese medicine, that can be used to treat this condition. Unfortunately, in the West, a ‘cold uterus’ is still a relatively unrecognised concept.

What is a cold uterus?
A cold uterus means your uterus does not have the desired temperature for a baby and is too moist. An embryo will struggle to flourish in a cold uterus just as a flower would struggle to grow in winter – the conditions and climate are too cold and unsuitable. A uterus must have the right temperature and humidity to keep it strong and prevent the possibility of a miscarriage.

Causes
There are several causes of a cold uterus. Mainly:
1. Too many cold drinks.
2. Sitting in cold areas, such as having the air conditioning on too much.
3. Sitting on a cold floor a lot.
4. Often walking around with bare feet.

Uterus massage: This increases the blood flow and warms up the uterus. You can use rose oil or castor oil for this.

As you can see, there are a number of factors that contribute to a cold uterus, but there are just as many remedies and treatments that can help reverse the problem. If you are struggling to conceive, these treatments will help prepare your uterus with the most suitable climate for a developing baby.
